Went this morning around 520am? Great place to get an affordable breakfast. $4 for fried rice and eggs +$2 for a choice of breakfast meat! Unbeatable!!!! seriously tasty and filling. I enjoy Mitsuba's fried rice more than Mitsuken but Mitsuken def has the better garlic chicken.

I can't believe I've never given this place a review!?
Well this is 1 of the OG okazuya places! They open at like 2:30am 5 days a week! They have a pretty good selection of okazu. Where else can you get a garlic chicken bento at 3am? Winner winner garlic chicken for dinner! -

I love okazuyas! Food is great from here! Their come sushi was good! I loved their Nishime too! Everything was delicious! I love mom and pop places like this! If you are ever in Kalihi you gotta stop by here and grab food to go.

The customer service was good. The food was just meh. I appreciate that their chow funn doesn't have vegetables. The less dressed the chow funn, the better it is, to me. It was a little too peppery for my taste though. The funn itself was good. I enjoyed the texture and size of the funn. The shoyu chicken was a nice big piece that looked really good but tasted just ok. There was a lot of meat on the thigh but it was not moist and it seemed dry and tough. The potato hash and the tamago roll were probably the best items that I ordered. The hash is tasty and the tamago was also delicious. Not overly seasoned, just right. I also ordered the maki sushi slices but did not eat them because I bought them for someone else. They did look good though.
Prices seem average.
Might come back to try their manju and other items like the spaghetti. -

Family owned and run. The elderly couple who work tirelessly just adds to the appeal and authenticity. There is nothing contemporary here. Old school with no innovation. Plantation food from a Japanese village. Is this okazuya paradise found?
Maki sushi - Sold out every visit.
Inari (AKA cone sushi) - Extremely well seasoned rice, on the sweeter side. Bits of carrots and age interspersed inside. It's all loosely packed in a sopping WET, ie dripping, seasoned cone that ruins the entire thing. Sigh as this would otherwise be the best tasting cone sushi on the island.
Konbu maki (seasoned seaweed wrapped pork)- Not offered.
Fried chicken - Very good. Well seasoned with a hint of ginger flavor. Simple flour dusted, blistered skin where exposed. Moist and not oily even at room temp.
Tempura - Yet again, yellow food coloring puff balls. Shrimp, overcooked but well seasoned. Sweetness enhanced by a bit of sugar in the batter. Veg tempura, heavily coated carrots and beans. Not too oily but not crisp. 70/30 batter to filling.
Odds and ends - Very good flattop grilled salted saba. Oily and not fishy. Very good boiled, not to sweet, shoyu chicken. Good hamburger patty cooked in its own beef fat drippings with some fillers as expected. OK hash, more potato than canned corned beef but tasty. Real fried luncheon meat (not Spam).
Extremely friendly service. Be patient, they are getting on in the years.
Despite the lack of innovation and not being as well known as the other old school "giants" (Fukuya and Sekiya), they deserve a place as one of the best old school establishments still remaining on the Island.
